Jayaprada to return to Andhra politics
Erstwhile glamour queen of Telugu films, Jayaprada AKA Lalita Rani, a politician whose fortunes have started fading up north in recent times, is all set to re-enter Andhra politics after a gap of more than a decade.
The actress/politician who deserted the TDP, the party that served as a springboard to her political career, in the early 2000 to join Amar Singh at the Samajwadi Party, is looking for an opportunity to revive her political fortune in the state as well as launching her nephew Siddhartha in Tollywood.
Jayaprada made her intensions clear during her visit to Tirumala in April to celebrate her 51st birthday. Then, she tried mending fences with TDP President Chandrababu Naidu by saying she had never spoken ill of him.
“He (Naidu) is not a bad man,” she had said. She said she would campaign and support her good friend -actor Balakrishna, son of N T Rama Rao—in whose films she had taken smaller roles.
She was Balakrishna’s mother in law in the film Maharadhi (Telugu) in 2007 where he starred with three heroines – Meera Jasmine , Sneha and Navneet Kaur.
Speaking to reporters at Palakollu on Monday, Jayaprada confirmed of her imminent entry into state politics, though she refused to disclose which party she would join.
