Liberty Cinema bomb hoax suspect arrested
A teenager has been arrested in connection with a bomb hoax that caused a major alert near Liberty Cinema in central Delhi earlier this month, police said on Tuesday.
The accused has been identified as Kamran, 18, a resident of Jamia Nagar in south-east Delhi. He allegedly made a cellphone call on May 2, claiming that a bomb was planted near the theater on New Rohtak Road.
A bomb disposal team and a dog squad were rushed to the spot but nothing was found.
“The mobile phone and the connection’s call detail records, customer agreement form and international mobile equipment identity were scrutinised and analysed, after which it was traced to Kamran,” a police official said. Police later asked him to come to Desh Bandhu Gupta Road police station, where he was placed under arrest and was sent to judicial custody.
He faces charges under sections 182 (false information) and 505 (statements conducing to public mischief) of the Indian Penal Code and under section 66A of the Information Technology Act.
