At least 11 persons were drowned in the river Ganga in different parts of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday.
Six persons drowned in Mirzapur district when a boat carrying 20-25 people capsized in the Ganga in Chilha area, police said.
The incident occurred on Thursday morning when the boat was crossing the river from Balliparwa to Bhanauti village. Those killed in the incident have been identified as Shyamkali (50), Shanti Dubey (60), Upasana (7), Munni Tiwari (45), Sunju (16) and Sundari (14). Police said while eight persons were rescued, efforts to trace those missing are underway.
