CBI grills Jagan outside jail

HYDERABAD, June 3, 2012,DHNS

Officers questioned the Kadapa MP on the way funds were diverted

Kadapa MP and YSRC party President YS Jaganmohan Reddy was grilled by CBI on Sunday for six and half hours in connection with disproportionate assets case.

The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Saturday handed over Jagan for five days of custodial interrogation to the CBI.

Instead of taking Jagan to the CBI Regional Office in Kothi or the Camp Office in Dilkusha Guest House, the CBI took him to senior officer's mess located in the DG & IG of Prisons office premises adjacent to the Chanchalguda Central Prison in Hyderabad at 10:30 am and began quizzing him. The Kadapa MP, clad in white shirt emerged from the jail gate with his trademark smile, he greeted media persons with folded hands before the CBI officials led him into the waiting vehicle.

CBI Joint Director Lakshminarayana and other officers questioned Jagan on the way funds were diverted to Jagati Publications, taking turns. Jagan was sent back to Chanchalguda exactly at 5pm and the interrogation will continue for four more days.

Cong not behind Jagan’s arrest: Kiran

Maintaining that the ruling Congress both at the Centre and state had no role in the arrest of YSR Congress chief Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Kirankumar Reddy on Sunday said the CBI had booked him for alleged economic offences based on court orders, reports PTI from Tirupati. “We have no role in the arrest of Jagan...he was arrested for his financial offences by the CBI on the orders of the High Court,” he told during a public meeting in Tirupati as part of Congress campaign for the June 12 by-election to Tirupati Assembly constituency.

The chief minister also said Jagan would face jail term of 10 or 15 years “if the charges against him were proved”.

Congress leader and Union Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad accused Jagan of forcing the by-elections to 18 Assembly constituencies and a Lok Sabha seat out of his “selfish interest”.
