Tankers are the lifeline here

Live stock also facing the heat
Last Updated 14 May 2009, 18:09 IST

There is an acute drinking water crisis in the villages due to depletion of ground water, defunct pump sets and stealing of cables. Since government has given priority to the drinking water, temporarily water is being supplied through tankers, expressed Chaldeganahalli gram panchayat member Ventakaswamy Reddy here on Thursday.

The shortage in water supply is further compounded by the irregular power supply and drying up of tanks in the region. Since the live stock is dependent on the ponds and tanks for their survival they too are facing the summer heat, he added.

The problem doesn’t end there, the crop grown with support of pump sets are also withering due to lack of water and farmers are facing huge losses, expressed Karnataka Prantha Raitha Sangha (district) General Secretary P R Suryanarayan in a press release.
Bescom should not only supply power regularly but should also provide quality power which wouldn’t harm pump set. This in turn would salvage the effect of  summer, he added.
