'Kakkilaya was a model'

People from all walks of life took part in a condolence programme organised to mourn freedon fighter and the CPI leader B V Kakkilaya here in Mangalore on Tuesday.

Speaking on the occasion, CPI leader Dr Siddana Gowda Patil said at a time when the politics is considered as dirty, B V Kakkilaya stands out as a model politician.
He was not only a politician but also an intellectual, he   said.  

“Kakkillaya had played a vital role in framing Land Refomrs Act.  He was worried over the issue of communalism in Coastal Karnataka. He was the leader of the oppressed class.”

Karnataka Kannada Sahitya Parishat former president Harikrishna Punaroor said that Kakkillaya is pride of Dakshina Kannada district.  

CPM leader K R Sriyan said “he had organised labourers and students during the freedom struggle. He had guided me in my life. He had fought for the cause of tenants and had raised his voice against communalism.”

Sharing his views, Dr Srinivasa Kakkillaya, eldest son of Kakkillaya said that his father had in depth knowledge on philosophy and science. He always had a scientific solution to the problems.

Rationalist Narendra Nayak, AITUC Leader T Krishnan Kasargod, CPI State Secretary P V Lokesh, colleague of Kakkillaya Shivshankar Rao, BJP District President Padmanabh Kottari, Muneer Katipalla of DYFI and others were present.
