IFT honour for CFTRI scientist

Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) of USA with its head quarters in Chicago, has honoured Dr Gokare A Ravishankar, chief scientist, CSIR-CFTRI as IT fellow this year.  He is the second Indian scientist honoured with this award.

IFT terms the award as “a unique professional distinction conferred on individuals with outstanding and extraordinary qualifications and experience for their contributions to the food science and technology field,” according to a press release from CFTRI.

IFT elects Fellows, from world wide, to honour outstanding scientists in the field of food science and technology. It is one of the largest bodies of FST in the world, with over 20,000 members.

It has been active in conducting training programs, HRD activities, nurturing the industries and academia for research and development in food science and technology with support to food industries for global outreach of quality foods. It has affiliations with several leading food institutes and associations in all parts of the world who are actively engaged in meeting food security and nutritional security for the world population.

Dr Ravishankar’s research contribution encompasses areas such as plant secondary
metabolites, bioactive molecules, plant tissue culture, plant biotechnology, algal biotechnology and food biotechnology, said the release.

Students to be honoured

Karnataka Rajya Shivarchaka Kshemabivridhi Trust in Mysore has proposed to felicitate top-scoring students from the community. According to a press release from treasurer of the trust states that students who have passed SSLC or PUC with distinction can apply before June 25 at the office at No 1096, 1st Main, 2nd Cross, Vidyaranyapuram.
