Dimple elected unopposed
Lucknow.June 9, 2012, DHNS:
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav's wife and Samajwadi Party (SP) nominee Dimple Yadav was on Saturday declared elected unopposed in the Kannauj Lok Sabha by-poll.
Dimple Yadav, who is the fourth member of the Mulayam Singh Yadav clan to become the member of Parliament, was declared elected unopposed by the returning officer after the deadline for the withdrawal of names on Saturday.
Only three nominees, including Dimple and two independents, had been left in the fray from the seat where a by-poll was slated for June 24.
The two remaining independent contestants against her had also withdrawn their names from the fray on Friday. While the Congress and Bahujan Samaj Party had decided not to field their nominees against Dimple, the BJP candidate failed to file his nomination papers on the last day of the filing of papers on Wednesday.
Dimple's first attempt to enter the Lok Sabha had proved to be a failure after she lost to Congress leader Raj Babbar from Ferozabad in a by-poll in 2009.
