Human rights violated by rich and powerful people: NHRC Chief
Rich and powerful people violate human rights and this poses the biggest challenge to the society, NHRC chairperson Justice K G Balakrishnan said today.
Addressing valedictory session of the month-long summer internship programme of the National Human Rights Commission, he said human rights will never lose their significance.
"Human rights are violated by rich and powerful people and this is the biggest challenge.
However, these rights will never lose their significance; rather it will grow with their expanding dimensions and legal sanctity accorded to them," Justice Balakrishnan said.
J S Kochher, Joint Secretary in the NHRC, said that in addition to building awareness on human rights, the internship programme is also serving the purpose of national integration as its participants come from different parts of the country.
