Bannerghatta Road stretch to turn one-way

Last Updated 13 June 2012, 20:28 IST

The stretch between Sagar Hospital Junction and Old Gurappanapalya Junction on Bannerghatta Road will be made one-way from June 16.

The Bangalore City Police have taken the decision in order to ease the traffic congestion on this stretch.

According to a survey, as many as 20,000 vehicles ply on Bannerghatta Road per hour.

The stretch starting from Dairy Circle houses several IT companies and commercial establishments on either sides.

The Sagar Hospital Junction is normally busy. The road from the junction to Gurappanapalya is a kilometre long and just 40 feet wide. Being open for two-way traffic, the road leads to major traffic congestion during peak hours. The Sagar Hospital junction has Tilak Nagar, a very busy area on its west.

During peak hours, the Bannerghatta main road and Tilak Nagar roads face major traffic jams.

Restrictions

In view of these, the Bangalore City Police have imposed the following restrictions on traffic on these roads:

One-way traffic  on the Bannerghatta Main Road from Sagar Hospital Junction to Old Gurappanapalya Junction. The traffic moving from North to South – from Sagar Hospital Junction to Gurappanapalya Junction – would be retained and the traffic on the opposite direction is banned.

Traffic moving from West to East – from Swagath Main Road and East End Junction to Sagar Hospital Junction would be retained and the traffic on this stretch in the opposite direction is banned.

The traffic moving from East to West from Bannerghatta main road to East End would be retained and the traffic movement in the opposite direction is banned.
The police have also banned taking right turn at two important junctions in the area. Vehicles moving from Dairy Circle are restricted from taking right turn at the Sagar Hospital Junction to Swagath Main Road.

These vehicles are to move forward on the Bannerghatta main road and take right turn at the Gurappanapalya Junction and get onto Reddy Hospital Road.

The police have also restricted taking right turn for vehicles coming from Tilak Nagar.
These vehicles are to move forward on the Swagath Main Road and take right turn near the Sagar Hospital junction.
