As south-west monsoon slowly sets in, Bidar district received copious rains in the last three days.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department, the district has registered rainfall of 117.1 mm against the average of 77 mm till June 19.

The three coastal districts Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada and the Malnad district of Shimoga have received normal rains. The rest of the districts, mainly located in
the interior Karnataka, have received scanty rains.

The incessant rain which lashed Karwar district for the last two days receded on Tuesday. The district has recorded 759.7 mm rainfall in the past two days, with Karwar taluk registering the highest rainfall of 162 mm. It has rained 114.2 mm in Ankola and 116 mm in Honnavar taluk.

Rain receded in Mangalore too while other coastal areas experienced drizzles.
Weak in Malnad

Monsoon weakened in the Malnad region of Shimoga on Tuesday. Barring light showers in Kargal and Jog, there was no rain in any other parts. Jog Falls is regaining its glory with the onset of monsoon.

However, the monsoon has intensified in Kodagu district with Sampaje registering a rainfall of 108.20 mm. It rained 26 mm in the catchment areas of the Harangi reservoir.
The water level in the reservoir stood at 2805.50 feet (full reservoir level: 2859 feet) with an inflow of 1,806 cusec. There was poor visibility in Madikeri due to heavy fog. The residents experienced a chill weather as the temperature dropped to a minimum of 15.3 degree Celsius.

Three people of a family were hospitalised after they were struck by lightning in Kasarakodu of Honnavar taluk. Deepa Tandela, Neela Tandela and Mahesh Tandela sustained injuries when lightning struck them in their house. Two houses have collapsed in the taluk owing to rain.

The monsoon is yet to strike Bangalore. According IMD Director Puttanna, the City will get rains only when there is a break in the monsoon on the coast. “The rains are receding in the coast in the last three days. Naturally, Bangalore may get rain in the next two to three days, but definitely not immediately,” he said.

The cumulative rainfall across the State in June, despite rains lashing some of the districts in the recent days, is 76.5 mm against the normal rainfall of 111.6 mm. The coastal areas have received 443.1 mm of rain against the normal of 471.7 mm. Despite the deficiency, it could be considered as normal rainfall, the Director said.
