BBMP budget to be presented on June 28
The much-anticipated budget of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) for 2012-13 will be presented on June 28.
The date was finalised after Mayor D Venkatesh Murthy discussed the issue in a meeting with the leader of the ruling party, N Nagaraj, and the chairman of BBMP’s Standing Committee on Taxation and Finance, K E Muneendra Kumar. Programmes on social welfare and Bangalore’s development would get the thrust in the Budget, sources said.
Meanwhile, the civic agency’s council will decide whether to sanction projects worth up to Rs 10 crore, instead of approaching the State government for the same.
The idea was to get such projects sanctioned by the civic agency, instead of the government, BBMP Commissioner, M K Shankaralinge Gowda, told reporters here on Wednesday.
“So far, government sanction is to be obtained for projects worth over Rs 10 crore. Why can’t we sanction such projects ourselves,” Gowda said.
The Palike has requested the Department of Health and Family Welfare to appoint 125 food inspectors. Gowda also said that prayers for rain would be performed at various places of worship if there was no rain till June 27. The Palike has returned half the amount (Rs 40 crore) paid by the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation.
