Man held for molesting woman on train

Patna, June 22, 2012, DHNS:

A day after Additional Director General (ADG) of Railways P N Rai issued directions that passengers under the jurisdiction of East Central Railway (ECR) could lodge a complaint with the escort party, which would be registered as an FIR in the railway police station, the first such arrest was made in Rajdhani Express where a retired armyman was sent to jail for misdemeanour with a woman co-passenger.

The ex-defence personnel has been identified as Chandra Ram Parwar of Haryana, who was travelling in AC-3 tier (B-5 coach) of Dibrugarh-New Delhi Rajdhani Express. His co-passenger, a woman (name withheld), who boarded the train at New Jalpaiguri lodged a complaint charging the retired army official with trying to outrage her modesty.Acting on the complaint of the woman, who is said to be wife of a senior officer, the escort party arrested Parwar and handed him over to the government railway police (GRP) in Patna. “This is the first instance of an arrest being made after a complaint was lodged in a running train,” said officer-in-charge of GRP, Patna, Ram Pukar Singh.

Earlier, many cases of criminal activity in running trains went unreported as passengers did not prefer to break their journey to lodge an FIR at the nearest government railway police station. In a similar incident, a bank manager was arrested after he was accused of molesting a teenage girl in his office chamber.

A student of Dharamdeo Inter College in Gopalganj had been visiting the Bihar Kshetriya Gramin Bank for the past three days for opening an account to deposit her scholarship money. On Thursday, when her account was not opened till 3 pm, she approached the branch manager Chandra Bhushan Prasad, who called her in his chamber. When the girl started to fill up the form for opening an account, the branch manager allegedly molested her. Gopalganj SP Natasha Gudia said the bank manager was arrested.
