No fresh CET ranks for Andhra students

Last Updated 29 June 2012, 18:24 IST

Marks obtained by students from Andhra Pradesh in the higher secondary (class 12) supplementary examination conducted by that state earlier this month will not be considered for assigning them ranks in Karnataka’s Common Entrance Test (CET).

The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) has thus rejected requests from AP students to assign them CET ranks based on their marks in that State’s supplementary examination.

Many students from Andhra Pradesh had appeared for the Karnataka CET in May after having appeared for the main higher secondary examination conducted by the State.

Quite a few of them also wrote the AP supplementary examination, called the Improvement Examination in that state, in June. They later requested the KEA to assign them fresh CET ranks based on their marks in the supplementary examination.

The KEA Executive Director, Rashmi V Mahesh, however, rejected the requests on Friday, saying these cannot be allowed under Rule 3 (1) (b) of the Karnataka Selection of Candidates for Admission to Government Seats in Professional Educational Institutions Rules, 2006.

“No candidate shall be eligible for admission to any of the full-time degree courses specified in sub-clause 3 of Rule (1), other than the degree courses in architecture, unless he/she has passed all subjects in II PUC or Class 12 or equivalent examinations held, preceding the (common) entrance test,” the clause reads.

According to Rashmi, only students from other states who pass the qualifying examination held before the CET will be assigned ranks. Those who pass the qualifying examination after the CET is over are not eligible for admission to any professional course through KEA, Rashmi explained.

Even students from Karnataka do not have this luxury. As per the consensual agreement between the State government and the private colleges, Karnataka students who write the II PU supplementary examination in July will be eligible for admission to engineering courses only during the supplementary admission round.

II PU hall tickets

Admission tickets of students appearing for the II PU supplementary examination in July have been despatched to the deputy directors of pre-university education (DDPUEs) in all districts.

Principals should collect the admission tickets of candidates from their colleges and hand over the same to students, G H Drakshiyini Devi, Joint Director (Exams), Department of Pre-University Education (DPUE), said in a statement on Friday.

Candidates who do not receive the admission tickets but have paid the examination fee should collect them from the offices of the DDPUEs concerned. Students of the Bangalore Urban and Rural districts should collect the same from the DPUE’s central office in Malleswaram.
