Drug abuse awareness for children held

Note books, stationery articles distribution ceremony and awareness on tobacco/drug abuse were held at Grace Vidya Samsthe, in  Tilak Nagara, on Monday. S M Nanda Kumar, corporator, Ward 43 organised supply of note books of different denominations, geometry boxes, pencils, etc, to about 200 poor students of the school.

Social activist and convenor, Anti-tobacco forum Vasanthkumar Mysoremath in his address and interaction with the children created awareness about the ill-effects of consumption of tobacco and drugs in order to catch them young, according to a press release from the school.

He advised the students to understand the plight of their poor parents who are taking pains to educate their children and to concentrate their energies on studies and not to become victims of peer pressure or curiosity of bad habits.

Headmistress Revathi  welcomed the dignitaries. Corporators Jayaram of Ward 28 Kumbaara Koppal and Shankarappa of Ward 36 Devaraja Mohalla were guests of honour. Others present were social workers Jayaprakash, Ravi, Madhu and Siddaraju of Tilak Nagar and surrounding areas, said the release.
