Poignant portrayal of reality

The film, Dandupalya, carries the burden of expectations with its very title. Besides detailed research and documentation, the film that is based on a gang of killers who terrorised Bangalore in 1990s, has relied on a very unorthodox mix of actors to meet the expectations.

Essaying one such role is Raghu Mukherjee, who plays one of the victims of the gang.

“I thoroughly enjoyed shooting for the film. It’s a real subject that has been translated into a movie and there’s nothing more rewarding than that. The director is now ready with Dandupalya-2,” Raghu Mukherjee tells Metrolife. Raghu dubs the response to the film as ‘phenomenal’. The story has been woven around the ‘Dandupalya gang’.

“I’ve done a lot of homework for this film. The script portrays the crime committed by this gang. They went on a killing spree. What’s nice is that I have strayed away from my usual romantic characters and have done some hardcore action sequences,” explains Raghu.
He points out that the gang’s misdoings have been portrayed with a lot of sensitivity in the film. “How the gang operates and how some of the gang members went untraced is what the film has tried to portray. Dandupalya-2 will have the incidents that occurred post their arrest and my role in that is yet to be finalised,” he informs.

Raghu has also signed up for another film, Savari to 1000 a.d, that traces the journey of a young man, “Quite often the title has been confused with Savaari. It has nothing to do with it,” he clarifies but doesn’t reveal too many details about the film.

Raghu has also been doing a couple of ad shoots. “It gives me a kick to do ad shoots, it’s a rush of a different kind. Unlike shooting for a film, there’s so much of creativity that needs to be packed into 15 seconds,” he observes. He has his favourites too. “The Arokya Milk ad, with a small girl, is one of my favourites because it reminds me of my childhood,” he signs off.
