Medical report claims Pinki is a 'male pseudohermaphrodite'
The medical report of Asian Games gold medallist Pinki Pramanik hints that she is a rare case of “male pseudohermaphroditism”, according to the police.
The doctor who conducted tests on Pinki said, “Male pseudohermaphroditism refers to individuals whose gonads are testes but whose secondary sexual characteristics or external genitalia resemble those of a female”.
“Male pseudohermaphrodites are genetic males (45, XY) who develop female configurations and identities and these individuals have testes but their genital ducts and external genitalia are female,” the doctor added. Asked if such a person is capable of committing rape, the doctor said, “Rape is a term which can or should be defined according to the circumstances and it should not have a generalised definition. So, it is very hard to say whether Pinki is capable of rape or not”.
The Police, however, have decided to seek the opinion of experts. “Her medical report is very confusing and we are not sure whether the athlete has really raped the woman or not; but the way the complainant is pleading we cannot ignore her version as well. There might be some truth in her statement. To know the actual fact, we have decided to seek opinion of the experts in this field, a senior district police officer said.
“The complainant has also alleged that there are other women whom Pinki has raped but they are scared to report to the police. We have decided to interrogate all of them so that we can get to the root of the incident,” the officer said.
