JOIN USCases of female foeticide being reported are not new in the country, but women in the capital have apparently no choice but to abandon their girl babies even after they are born after a few years.
Such a case was reported from Ambedkar Hospital on Sunday. A woman left her girl child on the hospital premises and is absconding. The child is expected to be around one-year-old.
According to the hospital authorities, the incident was reported at 2 pm. People visiting the hospital found the girl crying near the emergency ward of the hospital.
After seeing that nobody was taking charge of the crying baby, they informed the administration.
At first the officials thought that her mother must be around in the hospital. But when no one turned up to claim the baby even after half an hour, Rohini North police station was informed.
The child was given primary treatment at the hospital. She was presented to the child welfare committee (CWC). The CWC, after hearing the matter, sent the child to Holy Cross Children’s home in Dhirpur.
Police said they are looking for the parents of the child. They are also investigating how and when they had entered the hospital.
