In the wake of reports that some members of the Scheduled Castes were not being allowed to visit temples, police have been deployed in strength in two villages of Uttar Pradesh’s Chandauli and Bareilly districts.

Senior officials rushed to Chandauli’s Kazipur village following reports that Dalits were stopped from entering a Shiva temple there, IGP, Law and Order, B P Singh said here.

The wife of Bhola Yadav in whose agricultural field the temple was located reportedly stopped some people on Monday from offering prayers on the second Monday of the holy month of shravan saying it was closed, the IGP said.

She had alleged they had butchered a chicken there earlier, the officer said. He added that an understanding was, however, reached and the matter was resolved.

Another incident

In a similar incident, Babulal Balmiki complained to police on July 15 that Balmikis were not being allowed to offer prayers at a temple in Bareilly’s Sahasa village.

The IGP a case had also been lodged and police had been deployed in the area as a precautionary measure, he said.
