A 20-year-old girl sustained serious injuries after she fell off Dwarka flyover in south-west Delhi on Tuesday, police said.

Geeta is admitted in a private hospital where she is undergoing treatment.  Whether she tried to commit a suicide or accidentally fell off the flyover is still unclear, police said.

“We received a call regarding the incident at the police control room at 5.30 pm. After reaching the spot, the victim was found in a critical condition and was taken to Divya Hospital in Palam, where she is undergoing treatment,” said a police officer.

Geeta of Sadh Nagar in Palam Colony is pursuing her graduation from correspondence.

Her father, who has a furniture business in Dwarka, believes that his daughter could not have attempted suicide as she was not under any kind of depression. Police are investigating the matter. Prima facie it seems, police said, the nature of injuries do not indicate a suicide attempt or having been pushed. It can be an accident also. “We are waiting for the victim to gain consciousness to know the actual cause of the fall,” he said.

11 kids rescued, 4 held

Eleven children, who were working as bonded labourers, were rescued from a garment factory at Sitapuri, Dabri in south-west Delhi on Tuesday.

The rescue operation was led by P V Tyagi, tehsildar of Dabri police station, police officers, members of the labour department and activists.

Four employers have been arrested but one employer managed to flee during the rescue. The rescued children are aged between 12 to 14 and were trafficked to Delhi by local agents from villages of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.

These children used to stitch and do embroidery work for more than 12 hours a day getting only Rs 50 to Rs 100 a week for their services. They were made to work without adequate food and basic facilities.

According to activists, children are still being trafficked from UP and Bihar to other states for work in large numbers.

They alleged that the labour department is mainly responsible for the trafficking as they are not implementing the directions of the High Court in releasing wage arrears to the children and Rs 20,000 as a fine from the employers.
