A statue of ‘Meditating Gandhi’ will be installed in the park between Vidhana Soudha and Vikasa Soudha by January 2013, said the Legislative Council Chairperson D H Shankaramurthy on Wednesday.

Shankaramurthy, who is also heading a high-level committee constituted to look into the project, conducted a spot inspection along with committee members on Wednesday.

He said the bronze statue will be installed in the park, facing the Karnataka High Court.  The statue will be a replica of the one on Parliament premises in Delhi. It had been planned to entrust the work to the artiste from UP, who sculpted the statue installed in the national capital, he said.

The Council chairperson also said if all goes as per the plan, the government will invite President Pranab Mukherjee to unveil the statue. However, the cost of the project is yet to be worked out, he added.
