<p> Cramped classrooms are a common sight at Sundarapalya Pre University College, with more than 180 students taking class in a single room here. <br /><br />The number of students taking admissions here has restricted the infrastructure facilities, forcing students to study in an unhealthy and pitiable environment. The college that started in 2007 with a strength of 22 students has gone upto 427 now. But the facilities here remain unaltered.<br /><br />Due to the disproportionate facilities and a shortage of teachers. the school authorities are reluctant to introduce Science stream in the college, inspite of obtaining an approval. Recently, the Public Works Department has taken an initiative and constructed three classrooms here, which has been put to use only five months ago.Bad doors, worn out windows and roofs almost on the verge of collapse has added to the woes of the students. These loopholes are a glaring example of the negligence of the officers and contractors. </p>.<p>Lack of toilets<br /><br />Due to a lack of toilets here, the students and teachers have to defacte openly. More than 70 per cent of the students here are girls, who have to face problems because of lack of sanitation facilities, Dr Ramesh, a lecturer said. The college authorities have not employed a single English lecturer, making it difficult for students to pick up the subject.<br /><br />When questioned, the authorities give an excuse that part time teachers refuse to come here because if the distance. The college had secured excellent results two years ago, and had ranked first in the district, followed by second rank this year. “The students in the school can work dilgently only if the teachers good teachers are recruited here,” senior lecturer, Ramakrishna Gowda said. </p>.<p>Apart from this the college also has a shortage of administrative staff. The lack of infrasructure facilities, has affected our academics, Renuka, a second year student said. Students from Bethamangala, N G Hulkurm Nagashetty halli, Kadripuram V Kote from Andhra Pradesh, Rajapete Road, Kyasamballi, T Golahalli and other far away places. In addition to this, they have to battle with the problem of a shortage of buses. Even though the students have passes, the buses do not stop here and are not frequent. The state transport buses also do not stop near the college, Geeta, a student said.</p>
