A display of fine footwork

The ‘Every Friday Cultural Evening’ at the Yavanika Hall of the State Youth Centre saw the performance of a beautiful dancer — Radhika Prabhu, who presented a bharatanatyam recital.

The show is organised by the ICCR, the Department of Kannada and Culture, the Department of Youth Services and Sports as well as the Youth Writers and Artists guild every Friday. Radhika put up a brilliant show and her grace and fine footwork lifted her performance. Dressed in traditional bharatanatyam attire, she started the show with a Ganesh Vandana and used every nook and corner of the stage for her performance.

The music was enthralling and made her performance complete. Her poise and footwork stole the show — as she performed each step with equal clarity, the audience could not help but applaud her. “She is a graceful dancer and it is nice to see young talent come up and perform at these cultural shows. The best part is that she stuck to tradition and not added her own bit to the performance. I hope she goes a long way,” notes Prasun, who had come to watch the show.

She performed various compositions based on different ragas.  Not only was the footwork excellent, her hand movements were equally synchronised and as a young dancer, she was off to a good start.

“Her expressions are really good and I am very impressed to see such young people still attached to their roots. Many children are now taking up western dances. However, every Friday, we have so many experienced as well as young dancers showcasing their talent. It is really great to see them perform,” informs Deepa, who is a regular at the programme.

In fact, Radhika performed to a packed hall. “This is the first time that I have come to the programme and it is a great way to begin the weekend. I had heard a lot about the programme and I decided to take some time out to see it this time. Another reason why I chose to come was because a young artist was performing and I am glad I could make it,” says Harish, who was at the programme.

Radhika put up a beautiful show and her expressions, as well as her command over the beats, completed the show.
