Last Updated 07 September 2012, 19:15 IST

Get set for a creative medley of graphic novels and superhero comics, animated features and art workshops, at Comic Con Express, a first-ever festival of illustrations, at the Koramangala Indoor Stadium, here this weekend.

The event is a travelling version of the National Indian Comics Convention. ‘Comic Con Express’ has been designed to support and boost the comics industry by increasing local interaction and participation.

The Comic Con Express Mumbai had attracted big crowds in October 2011.

Here’s what in store at the Bangalore show: A book fair featuring leading comics / graphic publishers in India and abroad; over 20 book launches; and costume play, an event where children and adults can come dressed as their favourite comic character.

Among the participants are Marvel, DC, Amar Chitra Katha, Vimanika, Campfire, Chariot Comics, Level 10, and Pop Culture Publishing. The festival will also see the Bangalore launch of ‘The Indian Comics Journal - A Homage to Mario Miranda’.

Also on the festival agenda is Timpa, an Indian inspiration of Tintin with its new title ‘Timpa- The runners of the golden horn’.

Amar Chitra Katha will unveil its latest animated television series. Leading players in the animation industry will have special sessions and stalls. A special performance by a rock band, Duality, is also on the list.
