<p>Eleven scientists, including four Bangaloreans, have been selected for the 2012 Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar award for their valuable contributions to scientific research.<br /><br />Three scientists from Indian Institute of Science – Govindasamy Mugesh, Ravishankar Narayanan and Arindam Ghosh — bagged the award. The fourth person from Bangalore is Siva Ramachandran Athreya who researches at the Indian Statistical Institute.<br /><br />Delhi-based scientists Shantanu Chowdhury from Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology and Suman Kumar Dhar from Jawaharlal Nehru University, too, are among the recipients of the award.</p>.<p>Two Kolkata-based researchers – Krishnendu Sengupta from Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science and Debashish Goswami at ISI – bagged the award.<br /><br />The remaining three are Sandip Basu from Bhabha Atomic Research Centre in Mumbai, Y Shanthi Pavan from Indian Institute of Technology in Chennai and Gangadhar Sanjayan from National Chemical Laboratory in Pune.<br /><br />All the recipients will each receive a cash award of Rs 5 lakh besides Rs 15,000 every month for the rest their service lives if they continue to work in the government. The awards will be presented to them later.</p>
