A five-year-old boy and his three-year-old sister, who had been missing from Khajoori Khas of north-east Delhi, were found dead in New Usmanpur on Wednesday.

Arman and Usma were residents of Pakki Khajuri block F. Their bodies were found lying in a pool of blood with several injury marks in the jungles of New Usmanpur.

“We have registered a case of murder and sent the bodies to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital for post-mortem. Several injury marks were on their faces and bodies which seem to have been caused with a blunt object,” a senior police official said.

“Prima facie, it appears they were kidnapped. The exact cause behind the death is yet to be ascertained,” the official added.

They were missing since they left their relative’s house in the neighbourhood around 3.30 pm on Tuesday. Their parents Akram, a contractor, and Naseema Begum, had started a search in the locality after they did not return.

“They later lodged a missing person complaint with Khajoori Khas police station when all their efforts failed,” the official added. Police immediately launched an investigation and started a search in the locality. Police then found their bodies in the jungles of New Usmanpur on Wednesday afternoon.

Akram and Naseema identified the kids.

Police have not ruled out the possibility of Usma being sexually assaulted. “We are investigating from all possible angles and can only confirm if she was sexually assaulted after we receive the post-mortem report,” the official said.

According to V V Chaudhary, additional commissioner of police (north-east), investigating officer of the case is questioning Akram’s family members, neighbours and colleagues to gather clues.
