HP polls on Nov 4; Gujarat on Dec 13, 17

New Delhi, Oct 3, 2012, DHNS:

 Voting for Assembly elections in Gujarat will be held in two phases on December 13 and 17, while Himachal Pradesh will go to polls in a single phase on November 4.

Announcing the schedule for Assembly elections in two states, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) V S Sampath said counting of votes polled in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh would take place on December 20.

According to the schedule announced by the poll body, notification for elections in Himachal Pradesh will be issued on October 10. Last date for filing nominations will be October 17 and withdrawal of nominations in the hill state will end on October 20.

In Gujarat, notification for first phase of election will be issued on November 17 and for second phase on November on 23.

The poll panel has marked November 24 and 30 as last dates for filing nominations for the two phases in Gujarat and November 28 and December 3 for withdrawal of nominations in the state.

The CEC said proper arrangements will be made for law and order situation during election in two states and asserted that “based on the assessment of the ground situation, Central Police Forces and State Armed Police  drawn from other States would also be deployed” to ensure free and fair elections.
