Adobe working with industry bodies to check software piracy

Last Updated 03 October 2012, 16:55 IST

Adobe India is working closely with industry associations to create awareness about software piracy among SME clusters, said a company official.

“Piracy is more of absence of awareness than a price quotient,” Adobe South Asia Managing Director Umang Bedi said. He added that the company is offering discounted software to SMEs in order to ease out their software buying problems.

“Most of the piracy happens in SMEs and in consumer segment. However, consumer piracy is difficult to track and enterprise customers are getting very conscious about the issue,” Bedi explained.

A recent study by Business Software Alliance (BSA) put the piracy rate in India at 63 per cent and loss in commercial value of $2,930 million. The company has recently launched their monthly subscription model for Creative Suite 6, which experts believe was to tackle piracy; in India an annual subscription plan is available for its Creative Cloud Team Ready.

When asked if it plans to bring the monthly subscription model to India, Bedi said that the company is ‘exploring possibilities.’  Adobe also launched Acrobat XI software on Wednesday.
