90-day festival of states kicks off

 A unique multi-State 90-day festival of culture, handicrafts, arts and dance is now underway at the Innovative Film City, Bidadi, near here.

The festival, which will be on till January 2, 2013, was kicked off who witnessed performances from Kerala by Union Tourism Minister Subodh Kant Sahay on Tuesday.
The events are being staged at a Handicraft and Cultural Village specially created for the festival.

Over the next three months, the place will come alive with Festivals of Tamil Nadu from October 10 to 17, of Gujarat from October 19 to 30, of Karnataka from November 1 to 7, of Andhra Pradesh from November 9 to 12, of Rajasthan from November 14 to 20, of West Bengal from November 23 to 28, of Assam from November 30 to December 5, of Jammu & Kashmir from December 7 to 11; of Uttar Pradesh from December 14 to 19 and finally conclude with a Festival of Goa from December 21 to January 2.

Visitors will get to experience the true ethnicity of each state in the form of street plays, cultural performances, fairs, stalls and food.

Each state will be highlighted for a period of one week where the state’s craftsmen can display, demonstrate and sell their handicrafts.

The Kerala festival, which will stay on till October 9, was kicked off with performances by noted playback singers, MG Sree Kumar and Reemi Tomy. Dance performances of Bharathanatyam, Mohiniyattam and Kuchipudi by renowned artistes from various parts of Kerala enthralled the audience.
