What you wear to office needn’t be boring or drab. Learn to pick the right clothes that suit your figure, says Shaili Dagat

There happens to be a special line of garments for every occasion - casual wear, gym wear, party wear, daily wear and, very importantly, office wear. It is indeed grabbing a lot of attention as office wear is no longer boring and drab. Looking smart, trendy and chic has become the need of the hour and a priority. Fashion gurus have felt the pulse of office goers and the markets are flooded with the latest attires for them. One has to simply pick and choose from the awesome range and variety available.

Accessorise

Office-goers throng the stores for both formal and party-wear. While working girls go in for formal trousers, pants and cargos teamed up with accessories like smart bags, foot-wear and purses, the men-folk like wearing formal pants and shirts combined with a smart tie, belt, wallet and bill-folder. For office, this combination is comfortable, practical and chic too.  The latest Hollywood and Bollywood flicks have shown office wear as stylish and trendy, while being formal and comfortable. Fashion glossies have given a new and sizzling turn to fashion and wardrobe trends. However, one must not follow these styles blindly, but select them only after considering one’s own body-type, complexion and portfolio at office. The mantra is to carefully select the cuts, the patterns and the colours.

Branded ones

Branded series like Blackberry’s, Westside, Pantaloons, Life Style, Shopper’s Stop, Arrow, Van Heusen, and Louis Phillip are very popular. Jackie Yengkhom, the Store Manager at United Colours of Benetton, Khan Market, Delhi, says, “These days there is much variety in office-wear. Working girls mostly like a trim-fit pair of black trousers with a formal-cut shirt in small cheques or plain ones, in feminine hues like pinks or sea greens.

A smart pair of branded formal trousers would cost Rs.1999 and a shirt to go with it would be about Rs. 1899. The prices may vary from store to store.” Shailandra, the Sales Manager at Westside has this to say, “Western wear is surely more popular when it comes to office-wear. Girls like to go in for a smart pair of trousers and a formal shirt to go with it. We also have the semi-formal ‘kurtis’ that go well with trousers. Men prefer formal trousers and shirts along with the other essentials like a tie, belt, cuff-links, wallets etc. for that complete look. Also available are the very formal suits (ranging from Rs. 6000 to 15000 or more) for those important official meetings and presentations.”

Rohan Murty, a young IT professional says, “I have picked up formal trousers and shirts for myself for office. I am trying out the right cuts and colours at different stores. The look would be complete with the right kind of shoes and belt. I have a coat for those office meetings and also, the trendy branded stuff from Nike, Reebok and Excalibur for office parties!” Pratima, a Sales Executive, says, “Formal wear for office should be stylish yet sober, the colours must be subtle and not flashy. I love wearing trousers and shirts. A smart bag completes the look.”

Well, whatever you select, do it with care. You could also try out different mix and match combinations. Carry yourself well and make heads turn. Be smart and chic, its official now.
