EDMC to award staff for sanitation work

Last Updated 09 October 2012, 18:56 IST

Aimed at giving east Delhi a better look ahead of the upcoming festive season, the East Delhi Municipal Corporation has decided to award sanitation workers who do their job well.

In the run-up to the festive season, the workers have been asked to roll up their sleeves and gear up for awards such as the cleanest ward, most beautiful park, most well managed ward and best zone.

“The corporation is trying to beautify east Delhi. The sanitation drive is one of the initiatives to encourage sanitation workers as well,” said a senior East Corporation official.

To ensure that the plan is implemented well, the civic body has appointed 16 officials to oversee the drive. Each official has been entrusted with four wards.

“Officials of different ranks such as inspectors and additional commissioners will evaluate the work and give marks to decide winners. When the festival season starts on October 22, the marks will be tallied and workers will be awarded at a function,” an official said.

While this is the first such drive ever since the trifurcation of the civic agency, such award ceremonies are expected to become an occasional affair from time to time.

The East Corporation has also identified 700 points of broken roads under its jurisdiction and ordered their immediate repair before the festivals. Roads located in Preet Vihar, IP Extension, Nirman Vihar, Laxmi Nagar, Krishna Nagar and Pandav Nagar have been lined up for repair work.

In some areas work has already begun.
