The Cauvery Monitoring Committee (CMC) headed by Union Water Resources Secretary D V Singh in its scheduled meeting on October 11 will try to bring about a consensus between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu on the quantum of water to be released to Tamil Nadu from October 15.

The CMC will discuss the expert committee report submitted to the Centre after touring both the states to study water level in reservoirs and crop situation, sources in the Union Water Resources Ministry told Deccan Herald.

“In the meeting, which will be attended by chief secretaries of all riparian states — Karnataka,Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry — consensus would be tried. If it fails, the matter will be referred to the prime minister, who is the chairman of the Cauvery River Authority (CRA) for further decision”, sources said.

The PM, based on the CMC recommendation will decide whether to call the CRA meeting or not, sources added.
