Harshith bags high jump gold with meet record
On-song Sumaya sets new meet mark in women’s 200, Reena settles for silver
Bangalore’s Harshith S shattered the men’s high jump meet record in the athletics competition on the penultimate day of the Dasara Games here on Tuesday.
Harshith cleared 2.06 metres to claim the gold and go past the previous best mark set by his team-mate Chethan B (2.04).
Incidentally, Chethan claimed silver with a leap of 2.00 metres while Vinay Kumar B of Mysore bagged the bronze with an effort of 1.75.
Bebi Sumaya, who was in fine fettle on the opening day of the meet, was once again at her best as she set a meet mark in the women’s 200 metres, clocking 24.60. The Mysore lass bettered City-mate Reena George’s mark of 24.7. Reena equalled her own previous best in the championship to grab the silver and Bangalore’s Padmini MG pocketed the bronze in 25.90.
