Despite more than half of Platinum Jubilee Hall being empty, conjurers won the hearts of the modest crowd comprising school and college students at the inauguration of magic show here on Monday.

Earlier, wearing a red-coloured cape chief minister Jagadish Shettar waved a magic wand to let out a girl from a cage to inaugurate the magic show at MMC and RI Platinum Jubilee Hall at J K Grounds.

The magic shows will be held until October 22 with four shows at 2 pm, 4 pm, 6 pm and 8 pm. Tickets for children cost Rs 10 and Rs 50 for adults.

Much to the amusement of the crowd, a horde of magicians from across the country ensured that the young audience left the venue in high spirits.

Conjuring tricks to the tune of lively music, magician K S Ramesh enthralled the young audience by perfoming ‘disappearing acts’, ‘escaping from chains’ and releasing a girl from a box pierced by swords from all sides.

Other magicians comprising Ali from Hyderabad, Sameer Patel from Vadodara and Suraj left audience wondering were the pigeons in a cage disappeared and how innumerable umbrellas kept reappearing in the hands of the conjurers. Chand Pasha from Delhi showcased street magic to the crowd.

For those familiar with the song ‘Mile sur mera thumhara’, which was telecast quite regularly on DD two decade ago, artiste Prahlad Acharya recreated the nostalgia by performing a shadow show using his fingers. Juggler Gauss used balls and sticks to leave the audience spell-bound.

However, the limelight of the two-hour magic show was an acrobatic performance by a four-member African troupe from Das Es Salaam. Even as the audience cheered the quartet, they gave a scintillating performance displaying their strength and skill.
