India failed to take Ayurveda, Siddha to world market

Coimbatore, Oct 17, 2012, (PTI):

Though India was home for Ayurveda and Siddha medicine, it has "failed" to take them to the world market, a German scientist has said.

We are missing great opportunity to develop these products and export them to world market, Dr Helmutt Weidlich, Professor, Institute of Prof DR George Kunz Gmbh, Germany, said, while inaugurating the World Food Day celebrations last evening in Tamil Nadu Agricultural University here.

The University can contribute a lot in this area by way of providing a world class food processing technological platform for scientists, farmers and traders, Helmutt said.

The twin challenge in India was the need to feed its ever growing population and to export the agricultural producrs to the world market, he pointed out.

Currently the food products that India can export were undervalued and therefore there was a need to export goods of higher market value, especially those which were uniqur to India, Helmutt said.

This would be possible through cooperatives, where in producers, traders and scientists and quality assurance people were brought together, he said.
