Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar said on Saturday that he will ensure that the Kannada language and the sentiments attached with it are not hurt by any government decision.
He was addressing a gathering at the launch of Sudheendra Kulkarni’s book, ‘Music of the spinning wheel - Mahatma Gandhi’s manifesto for the Internet Age’ at Jnana Jyothi Auditorium.
Blow to language
Responding to the accusation made by the author of the book and also by Jnanpith award winner Dr Chandrashekhar Kambara that the closure of 13,000 Kannada medium schools would deal a major blow to the language, which is the essence of the State, Shettar promised that he will not allow any Kannada school to close down.
Gandhi and the Net
Nandan Nilekani, chairperson of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), who has been entrusted with providing Unique Identity Cards (UID) to citizens of the country, said he was amazed by the idea of linking Mahatma Gandhi with the Internet revolution and the possibility of shaping a non-violent and self-sufficient society using information technology.
