A Delhi Police head constable suffered head injuries after being attacked by armed assailants in a restaurant in north east Delhi’s Dilshad Garden. Two employees of the restaurant were also injured.

Police said the incident took place inside Rasoi Restaurant in L-Block at around 9 pm on Wednesday.

It is alleged that members of a gang led by Dinesh Pehalwan ate at the restaurant occasionally in the past five months, but refused to pay the bill. They visited the restaurant again on October 22 and had an argument with the restaurant’s owner Harish Gupta over paying the bill.

In his statement to police, Harish said Dinesh came back to the restaurant on Wednesday with his gang members to take revenge. He alleges that the accused opened fire outside the restaurant, so he fled from there.

“They subsequently entered the restaurant and abused employees. They went on to damage property and beat up the staff,” a police official said.

Harish also approached police and two officers including head constable Bijender, rushed to the spot. They tried to bring the situation under control.

However, Dinesh and about a dozen of the gang members attacked Bijender and two of the restaurant’s employees -- Akhilesh Kumar and Satender Singh.

Despite the presence of many locals the accused fled. The injured were taken to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital by a police control room van.

Harish also alleges that he had approached senior police officials earlier to complain about threat from Dinesh, but no action was taken.

A case has been lodged over the incident against Dinesh at Seemapuri police station. The charges are of attempt to commit culpable homicide, obstructing and assault to deter public servant and causing hurt.
