JOIN USSenior Haryana IAS officer Ashok Khemka, who claimed to have got two threat calls within a fortnight, today questioned the functioning of the state police over its alleged failure to nab the caller.
"The Panchkula ACP calls me and tells me that she will take my statement...I fail to understand why police is taking time to identify the caller...police is wasting precious time...it is unprofessional on the part of police," the officer told PTI over phone from Pataudi in Mewat district.
Khemka, who is in the news following the recent controversy over land deals involving Robert Vadra, has claimed to have received two threat calls.
On state Chief Secretary P K Chaudhery having called him following the threat complaint to Panckula Police, he said that "as long as police identify the caller and nab him and take a legal action against him it is fair enough."
"I don't know why the CS has called me... but I will meet him either this evening or on Monday," he said.
He questioned why police is waiting when the matter was reported to it on October 30. "Are they waiting to let loose the man...erase call details...it is not a big task to nab the caller when his number has been provided to police," he added.
On being questioned whether he will press for security cover in the wake of repeated threat calls to him, he said "I don't think security cover will help in stopping such calls."
"The security cover is more like a paraphernalia...a kind of show," the 1991 batch IAS officer said.
Meanwhile, Haryana police have already registered an FIR under section 506 (criminal intimidation) and 509 (act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the IPC against an unknown person in connection with the threat call to the office of Khemka.
The Haryana police have also sought help of cyber experts to track the caller.
Khemka, however, said that "it is more of a show."
"I am doing my duty...the matter is why should be I victimised...why there is mudslugging...do they want to steal my life," he said.
"Its not the job of police to grab land...unfortunately police act as goonda", he alleged.
Khemka claimed to have received the second threat call on October 30.
An unknown person had made a call on Khemka's official landline phone, which was received by a woman employee present in his office.
"The caller, according to the complaint, used abusive language and threatened Khemka," Nupur Bishnoi, In-charge of Panchkula's Sector 5 police station, where the complaint has been lodged, had said.
A fortnight back, the 1991-batch IAS officer's friend and noted lawyer, Anupam Gupta had said that Khemka had received threat calls from unknown people.
Khemka was transferred from Director General Consolidation of Land Holdings and Land Records-cum-Inspector General of Registration to his present posting in the State's Seed Development Corporation shortly after he initiated a probe into land dealings between Vadra and realty giant DLF.
A probe report submitted by four deputy commissioners in Haryana is understood to have given a "clean chit" to Vadra over his land deals.
