Congress chief Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday dedicated the ambitious Rail Coach Factory at Lalganj in her Lok Sabha constituency of Raebareli to the nation and laid stress on cleanliness on trains.

Sonia, who arrived at Raebareli on Wednesday on a two-day visit, flagged off seven rail coaches at an impressive ceremony as she complimented the Railways on commissioning of the factory in such a short time.

Speaking on the occasion, she said that the Rs 2,500-crore factory would generate local employment and help in the development of the region.

Sonia took a dig at those who had expressed doubts over the completion of the project.

She also presented appointment letters to 14 people, whose land had been acquired for the project. The Railways has said that all those, whose lands had been acquired, will be given employment.

She asked the Railways to pay more attention towards cleanliness on trains. The Congress president also announced that the Raebareli Railway Station would be modernised. The number of platforms would be increased and washing lines would be constructed.

Railway Minister Pawan Bansal was also present on the occasion. He said 1,000 stainless steel coaches would be manufactured at the factory this year. Its capacity would go up gradually to 2,500 coaches over a few years, he added.
