Militant killed in Kashmir encounter
A Hizb-ul-Mujahideen militant was killed in a fierce encounter with security forces in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Tuesday.
Police said that acting on specific information about the presence of militants in village Kujjar in Kulgam, 80 km from here, a joint operation was launched by the Army’s 1-Rashtriya Rifles, 18 Battalion para-military CRPF and police in the area.
The militant, who was hiding in the area, fired on the search party and in the retaliatory action he was killed, they added.
Police identified the slain militant as Showkat Ahmad Tak, a resident of Panzgam Kulgam belonging to the militant outfit. Some arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain militant.
