Aimed at augmenting revenue, the East Delhi Municipal Corporation has decided to develop three commercial centres on its properties — one each in Babarpur, Annaj Mandi and near toll tax office at Apasara border.

While a multi-level parking-cum-commercial centre is likely to come up at Babarpur and Annaj Mandi, an office-cum-shopping complex will be developed at the corporation land at Apasara border.

Process begun

The corporation officials said the process of appointing a consultant for development of three properties has been initiated. “The consultant will help the corporation in preparing the project report which meets the aims and objectives of developing these locations,” said a senior corporation official.

Spread over an area of 4,150 square metre, the corporation land near the Apasara border is the largest of the three. While the municipal property at Babarpur is 1,950 square metre in area, the Annaj Mandi land measures 895 square metre.

Officials said the consultant in its project report will suggest the nature of commercial hubs to be developed at all the three locations for the optimal utilisation of the land. The nature of development will be decided by the consultant, but its success depends on the location, said an official.

“Annaj Mandi is considered as Chandni Chowk of east Delhi, with lots of commercial activity. A commercial complex-cum-parking lot will be best suited for the location. Similarly, a commercial-cum-office complex will be an ideal project at Apasara border,” said the official.
