'Don't compare Pujara to Dravid'

India’s World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev said it is unfair to compare Cheteshwar Pujara with Rahul Dravid, stressing the youngster needs to carve out his own position in the side.

Pujara for long has been compared to Dravid, right from his batting style to his ability to dig in his heels in the day’s game.

On Friday, Pujara stroked his way to a maiden  unbeaten Test double century against England and sparked a debate whether India has finally found a replacement for the former India captain, who was nicknamed “The Wall” for his ability to bat for long duration at Test cricket.

“Don't compare Cheteshwar Pujara with Rahul Dravid. He has just made one century (sic). Let him make his own position in the team.

If tomorrow Virat Kohli made 200, you cant compare him with Sachin Tendulkar. It is unfair to put pressure on him. There can be no replacement for certain cricketers. It has taken Rahul 15 years to be where he is,” the Haryana Hurricane told reporters on the sidelines of the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit.

Another former cricketer Ajay Jadeja said Pujara’s innings showed his hunger to get better.
“It shows he is someone who is not content. There is room of improvement and he has shown he wants to get better,” Jadeja said.
