New Delhi, Nov 17, 2012, DHNS: 1:03 IST
Over 3,000 children from the weaker sections of society studying in government schools, NGO-run schools and those living on streets ran for about four kilometers in Delhi on Saturday as a celebration of their rights.

The run organised by Prayas NGO was attended by personalities like Shatrughan Sinha, Sanjay Dutt, Salman Khurshid, union minister of external affairs, Ajay Maken, minister of housing and urban poverty alleviation and Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar.

“We must encourage children to get basic education to help them become successful human beings,” said Khurshid.

Dutt, who has been announced as the new brand ambassador of Prayas, said, “I commit myself to the cause of these children and believe that Bollywood should come forward in support of children’s issues and help them fight for their basic rights.”

Amod Kanth, general secretary of Prayas, said since it was the NGO’s silver jubilee year, Prayas will organise more such events across states and invite other civil society organisations, corporate and government agencies to be a part of this celebration.
