Karnataka struggle

Karnataka ‘A’ were struggling at 120/5 in reply to Punjab ‘A’s first innings total of 493 on the second day of the C K Nayudu Trophy Elite Group ‘A’ match at the Chinnaswamy stadium on Sunday.

Opener Mayank Agarwal (64 batting) was the lone Karnataka batsman to defy the Punjab bowlers. He hit nine boundaries and a six off 106 balls. Jaskaran Singh was the wrecker-in-chief claiming four for 29 from ten overs. The right-arm medium-pacer dismissed R Samarth (4), Sunil N Raju (0), captain Karun Nair (7) and Anirudh Joshi (19), while Pawan Deshpande fell to Deepak Bansal for 10.

Abrar Kazi (7 batting) and Mayank have so far added 34 runs for the sixth wicket. Karnataka ‘A’ need 224 runs more to avoid follow on.

Brief scores: Punjab ‘A’ (O/n 310/3 in 90 overs): 493 all out (Ravi Inder Singh 152, Himanshu Chawla 82, Preet Kamal Singh 46, Jaskaran Singh 41, Sharad Lumba 39, Taruwar Kohli 29, Kamal Passi 27; David Mathias 4-110, Aditya Sagar 3-61) vs Karnataka ‘A’: 120/5 in 33 overs (Mayank Agarwal 64 batting; Jaskaran Singh 4-29).
