Madikeri, Nov 18, 2012, DHNS:

The proposed park in the name of Martyr Guddemane Appayya Gowda, near Sudarshana Circle has not been completed even after a year. The statue of Appayya  Gowda was laid a year ago.

The authorities had initiated measures to lay a park in the memory of Guddemane Appayya Gowda, around the Statue, a year ago.

As one enters Madikeri from Kushalnagar route, one will get the statue of Field Marshal K M Cariappa on the right hand side and Guddemane Appayya Gowda on the left side. The two statues welcome the visitors.

The CMC had decided to lay a park around the Statue of Appayya Gowda, to beautify the area. The work on the park was started a year ago. However, it has not been completed so far. With the efforts of Assembly Speaker K G Bopaiah, a sum of Rs 50 lakh was released for laying the park. The department of Kannada and Culture had released Rs 12 lakh for installing the statue of Appayya Gowda. Accordingly, the statue was unveiled by the then Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda, on January 2.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, CMC Commissioner Shashikumar said that the work was delayed due to rain. The work will commence shortly and the park will be ready by the month end.
