HC disposes of petition on hoisting of Kannada flag

The Karnataka High Court today disposed of a PIL seeking withdrawal of a circular making hoisting of Kannada flag compulsory on "Rajyotsava" day after government reiterated that it has withdrawn the circular and a notification to that effect had aleady been issued.

When the petition came up for hearing before the division bench headed by Chief Justice Vikramajit Sen, the government advocate also submitted that on this Rajyotsava (state formation) day on November 1, the Kannada flag was not hoisted. The PIL was accordingly disposed of.

The court during the earlier hearing had questioned the legal sanctity of such a circular observing there was only one flag which was the national flag and states could not have separate flags and had sought to know the government's stand on the issue.
