The newly-introduced interactive conservation education programme titled ‘Conservation Speak’ organised by Mysore Zoo will be held on December 4.

This is the third talk in the series and this time Dr R J Ranjit Daniels, director, Care Earth, Chennai will speak on the topic ‘The conservation debate in India,’ at 11 am at the Zoo auditorium.

Due to space constraint, participation is limited to persons on first-cum-first-serve basis with
prior registration free of cost at zoomysore@gmail.com or call Zoo office on 0821-2520302/2440752 on or before December 2.

Participants are requested to park their vehicles at the zoo parking stand in front of the zoo entrance, said a release from the zoo executive director B P Ravi.
Scenario

Daniels founded Care Earth in 2000 that is dedicated to bio-diversity research and training.
During his presentation, he would primarily concentrate on the issues related to
conservation scenario in India.

Conservation of bio-diversity is all about prioritisation. Human priorities are varied. However, modern trends of conservation prioritisation are generally driven by sentiments and market demands, rather than by well-informed ecology. Deep ecological thought and action is often described as ‘fanatical’ or activism, despite its soundness.

Therefore, it seems that conservation plans and actions are highly prejudiced and exclusive. How long can we play this hide-and-seek game? asks Daniels.
