Apeksha edges out Archana for U-16 title

Apeksha Nayak scored a hard-fought 21-13, 17-21, 21-14 win over Archana Pai to claim the girls’ under-16 crown in the ninth Ramesh Padukone-Mehul Sirur memorial inter-school badminton tournament at the Prakash Courts here on Wednesday.

In the day’s other final, Tanya Hemanth posted a 8-21, 22-20, 22-20 win over Niyathi N Prabhu to bag the girls’ under-10 title.

Results: Boys: Under-16 (semifinals): Akash Murthy (Bethany) bt Sudeep Suresh 20-22, 21-9, 21-13; Pradyumna Kulkarni (Cambridge) bt Likhith A Gowda (Vidyamandir) 18-21, 21-16, 21-15.

Under-14 (semifinals): Akshay Srinivas (DPS-S) bt BS Shantanu (Sindhi HS) 21-13, 21-12; Nikhil Sriram (Sri Kumaran) bt Vignesh S (MESKK) 22-20, 21-13.

Under-12 (semifinals): Shivadeep Jayanth (Brigade) bt Vignesh Prakash (Chinmaya) 21-11, 21-8; Karthik Vyakaran (PSBB) bt Rohith Krishna (DPS-E) 21-19, 21-19.

Under-10 (semifinals): Santrupth H V (PPEC) bt Suhas V (Little Flower) 21-8, 21-14; Naren Iyer (Vagdevi) bt Sujal Shekar (Gandhi Centenary) 21-15, 21-6.

Girls: Under-16 (final): Apeksha Nayak (VVS) bt Archana Pai (MSS) 21-13, 17-21, 21-14. (Semifinals): Apeksha bt Reenu Rakshanna (BPI) 21-13, 21-14; Archana bt Poojashree (PPEC) 21-4, 21-4.

Under-14 (semifinals): Archana Pai (MSS) bt Ashwini Bhat (DPS-S) 21-17, 20-22, 22-20; Apeksha Nayak (VVS) bt Richa Muktibodh (DPS-S) 21-16, 21-12.

Under-12 (semifinals): Shivani A Pathy (Legacy School) bt Medha Sashidhar (Primus) 21-14, 21-15; Nikita Ramesh (Cluny) bt Sheetal D (JSSPS) 21-14, 21-7.

Under-10 (final): Tanya Hemanth (NPS) bt Niyathi N Prabhu (VVSGCS) 8-21, 22-20, 22-20. (Semifinals): Tanya bt Arushi Rajagopal (Yenkay) 21-9, 21-6; Niyathi bt R Drithi Chandru (Yenkay) 21-7, 21-7.
