Ayurveda doctors will be allowed to use allopathic medicines in emergency situations. Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) President V Vedaprakash Tyagi said that the Union Health Minister has agreed in this regard and a circular on the same will be issued soon.

He was addressing the gathering after the inauguration of Karnataka Ayurveda Medical College (KAMC) Decennial Celebrations in City on Wednesday.

He said that except in Kerala, all other states are allowing ayurveda doctors to use allopathic medicines. Once the circular is issued, ayurveda doctors from all states will be able to use it on emergency situations. He said that many traditional ayurveda centres like Arya Vaidya Shalas, Kottakkal etc are producing quality medicines, but those medicines are not available all over due to various reasons.

He said that many of the ayurveda colleges in the country are facing de-recognition due to lack of infrastructure. CCIM is pledged to assure quality education for all the students. “In case if we find any irregularities, we will take strict action against the college concerned.

Any one can contact CCIM, if any malpractices are found in colleges, inspection will be done by the CCIM in the concerned college within days,” he said and added that the syllabus of ayurveda will be simplified.Ayurveda Academy President Dr Jayaparakash Narayan said that Ayurveda colleges and doctors are having an inferiority complex.

This is because they are not confident in practicing. He said that globally ayurveda has a huge demand, but number of students taking up post graduation in ayurveda is coming down.

“If you are qualified, then globally you will get acceptance, otherwise they won’t care you,” he reminded the students. He said that the objective of ayurveda is to maintain health of healthy persons.

Karnataka Education and Charitable Trust President Amarnath Sorake, Secretary Dr Jeevaraj Sorake, KAMC Principal Dr Attavar Muralidhar were also present during the function.
