TN petitions SC seeking backlog Cauvery water

The Tamil Nadu government on Thursday filed an application before the Supreme Court seeking 52.8 tmc feet of backlog water from Karnataka.
In its application before Apex Court, Tamil Nadu government said that as it needed water for Samba crop during the current irrigation year, the Karnataka should release backlog water from its Cauvery basin reservoirs. Though earlier the Tamil Nadu had made similar plea before the Cauvery Monitoring Committee (CMC) headed by Union Water Resource Secretary D V Singh, latter refused address the issue.
